Thank you, mittens

If you think back to getting a cold treat on a hot summer day when you were a kid, what comes to mind? Was it an ice cream cone? A freezie? A popsicle? A slurpee? When my kids were growing up, they loved slurpees (and still do). It didn’t matter if it was a hot sunny day or the middle of a cold winter – getting a slurpee was always a special treat.

The inspiration for this coloured pencil drawing was from a sunny June afternoon. My daughter was sitting on the couch drinking her slurpee, and to keep warm she was covered up in her baby blanket and also wearing a pair of mittens. Yes, mittens in the middle of summer!

My drawings help capture these everyday moments, turning them into special keepsakes of one’s childhood. Perhaps this drawing can remind you of time with your own kids or grandkids. Or maybe you just want something cute to brighten the room. “Thank you, mittens” is perfect for a kids room, an office, or a living room.
