Terms and Conditions for Commissions

  1. Price Quotation:  The Artist will provide the Client with a written quotation for the requested artwork. Prices are subject to change based on the complexity of the project but will be agreed upon before the commencement of work.
  2. Acceptance of the Commission: Acceptance of the commission must be made in writing (email is acceptable). By accepting the commission, the Client agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
  3. Booking Fee: A non-refundable booking fee of 50% of the total quoted price is required to secure the commission and begin work. This booking fee will be deducted from the final payment.
  4. Photo Provision: Clear, high resolution reference photos ensure the best quality for your commission. The supplied photos can be either print (these will be returned with your portrait) or digital, and the Artist is happy to receive as many as you would like to send. Please ensure they are either your own photos or ones that you have permission from the photographer to use. Together we will select the best one for your portrait. In some cases, the Artist will still work from poor quality photos, but please understand that the portrait may be slightly less detailed. The Artist reserves the right to reject any photo that does not meet the necessary quality standards.
  5. True to Life: Although I create drawings that are true to life, they are my interpretation of the supplied photos. The completed piece will be a drawing not an exact, photo realistic copy.

  6. Time Scale for Portrait: The completion time for a commission varies and is dependent on the Artist’s current workload, the complexity of the commissioned piece, and the size of the artwork. An estimated completion date will be provided when the commission is accepted. However, this is an estimate and not a guarantee. The Artist will ensure they communicate regularly with the Client to keep them up to date with their commission.
  7. Revisions: One minor revision is included. Additional revisions may incur extra charges.
  8. Approval Process: Progress updates may be shared on social media (unless specifically requested otherwise by the Client in writing). Upon completion of the work, a photo will be emailed for final approval.
  9. Delivery: Shipping is not included in the prices. Once the piece has been packaged and weighed, the Client will receive an invoice for the shipping. The drawing will be shipped after the final balance, including shipping, has been received. International shipping can be arranged and any customs charges or additional fees will be the responsibility of the Client.
  10. Balance Payment: The balance of the payment plus shipping is due upon completion of the artwork, before shipping or delivery. The artwork will not be shipped or delivered until the final payment has been received. Payment is taken via PayPal, cash or e-transfer (the latter for Canadian clients only). An invoice will be sent to the Client’s email.
  11. Copyright: The Artist retains copyright to the commissioned artwork from the Client’s photo. The Artist reserves the right to share on their social media, website, and portfolio. The Client may use the artwork for personal use only, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
  12. Sharing on Social Media: The Artist reserves the right to share the commissioned artwork on social media and for portfolio purposes, unless specifically requested otherwise by the Client in writing.
  13. Mailing List: The Client agrees to be added to the Artist’s mailing list to receive future updates.
  14. Termination of Commission Request: The Client may terminate the commission request within 7 days of the initial deposit payment. In such cases, the deposit will not be refunded but may be applied to future commissions. If the Client cancels the commission after work has begun, the booking fee will be forfeited. If the Artist must cancel the commission due to unforeseen circumstances, the deposit will be fully refunded to the Client.
